Take a look video captured in 2019 at the Berkeley Engineering and Research Facility shows this woman's water bottle being tampered with. Berkeley police say her coworker used cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, to poison her. Our media partners at the San Francisco Standard report the bottle contained cadmium levels more than 3 million times the federal drinking water limit. The co worker eventually reached a plea deal with prosecutors. He's expected in court tomorrow to ask a judge to dismiss his felony conviction. | 0:38 | davidxupoisonhiddencamera | original sound - ABC7 News ABC7 News

Fleet Week is often associated with air shows and the roar of military aircraft overhead, but organizers say there is much more to the annual event than what happens in the sky. Fleet Fest took over San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf over the weekend, giving visitors a chance to explore military equipment, meet service members and first responders, and participate in hands-on activities. ABC7's @drydenreports has the story. #fleetweek #fleetfest #sanfrancisco #military #abc7news | 4,4 k | – | x | 126 | dim. 11 oct., 18:32 | 4 | 6 | But when the air show is over, that doesn't mean the fun stops. Fleet Fest is going on at Fisherman's Wharf and will be there all day tomorrow. ABC seven Eyewitness News reporter Dryden quickly went to check it out. When you think of Fleet Week, you probably think of the air show, but there's more to it than just the roar of jet engines. The show is all day long. It might not be in the sky, it's definitely throughout San Francisco. Fleet Fest is on the ground, taking over Fisherman's Wharf for the weekend as a center for people to explore all things military and have some fun, too. You know, talking to other sailors, my daughter doing the Marine Corps pull up challenge. Yeah, I like the helicopters. I like looking at them up close, and you see them in the sky. We get to, like, see them up close and, like, personal. And up close and personal, look at the equipment and the people behind it. If you're here in San Francisco, we're not just your public servants. We're your neighbors, we're your community. Meeting the men and women in the armed forces and even taking them on in tug of war. This is a post game interview. How do you feel? Good. And there's plenty for kids or adults to do, too, like check out these cool vintage military vehicles or put your strength to the test. It's their first time, uh, in San Francisco. So they're really liking it. You know, they saw the fire engine out there, and they see this here, so there's plenty to keep the kids busy, I think. The fest is typically at Marina Green, but this year it was moved to centralize everything with the service and Safety Expo at Pier 27 and free ship tours just down the road. They're all open until 5 on Sunday. The energy is exhilarating. It's inspiring. And we're not done yet. We got one more day in San Francisco. Dryden, quickly. The thunderous roar of jet engines returned to San Francisco's waterfront Saturday as the U.S. Navy Blue Angels soared over the Bay, drawing thousands of spectators to Fleet Week after weather postponed Friday's performance. #fleetweek #blueangels #sanfrancisco #bayarea #navy #abc7news | 7,7 k | – | x | 388 | dim. 11 oct., 04:26 | 9 | 28 | Well, did you hear it? Better yet, did you feel it? The US Navy's Blue Angels taking to the skies over San Francisco's waterfront for Fleet Week. An incredible display here. The nation's premier flying squadron returning to the bay after being grounded last year by the government shutdown and getting postponed on Friday due to fog. ABC 7 Eyewitness News reporter Cornel Bernard was there when the angels took to the skies. It's true. You don't just watch the Blue Angels, you feel it fly over. You can't believe that they're that close together and that they can do that. They can do what they're doing. It's amazing. I love the planes flying. What the heck? It's a good show. I like the noise. Thousands of spectators on Marina Green looking up as the navy's elite flying team returns to the bay with their amazing signature, heart pounding, nail biting stunts on Friday. Carl, the fog had other plans for the show. It was canceled. But the skies are now opening up and it's clear for take off. Well, first of all, we got Carl a one way ticket out of town for the weekend so he can come back on Monday. Jennifer Flores from Oakland is back with her dad for day 2 to see the Blue Angels fly. So we were actually here yesterday and we saw very quick glimpses of them. So we decided to come back out today so finally get a good look at Them. The Blue Angels were grounded for the 2025 Fleet Week Care show due to the government shutdown. Other planes dazzled the crowd on Saturday, like the United Airlines 777, which buzzed the Bay. Fleet Week is truly the Super Bowl of air shows. I mean, you have the top talent with the Blue Angels and all of the amazing performers that want to perform here every year. And the backdrop like the Bay, I mean, there's just nothing like it. It's just truly spectacular. And after the show, crowds poured onto Marina Boulevard and traffic came to a crawl for a time. The viarangos from Santa Rosa expected delays. They say this family tradition is worth it. It was something we've done forever. You know, it's as kids, we did it year after year. And now we're bringing our children to their first air show. The kids going home with their own Blue Angel souvenirs and lots of jet fueled memories for a lifetime. It's amazing. It's amazing. So, uh, as our kids say, what did the Blue Angels represent? America! America! America in San Francisco. An Anthropic artificial intelligence model submitted a false tip to a Philadelphia police website about an unsolved homicide case, authorities and Anthropic said. It's the latest example of AI models acting in unintended ways and manipulating government and other websites during tests. In a report Friday, San Francisco-based Anthropic also disclosed a separate incident when its AI model submitted forms to an undisclosed government website instead of stopping before submission. Reporter Briana Smith from our sister station, WPVI, has the story. #ai #anthropic #claude #homicidecase #abc7news | 154 k | 4.3× | x | 4,5 k | dim. 11 oct., 02:15 | 206 | 983 | There's another stunning incident involving a I. An anthropic model submitted a false tip about an unsolved murder to police in Philadelphia through a publicly accessible web form. Reporter Brianna Smith with our sister station in Philadelphia has the response from the police department and its message to the San Francisco company. Philadelphia police say it will keep a closer eye on its community tips and anthropic, an AI. Research company. This comes after the company's AI. Model submitted a false homicide tip to Philly Unsolved murders.com in July. But police say anthropic discovered the incident in September. It should have been detected earlier. Anthropic says it was testing how its model interacts with randomly selected websites. We don't exactly know what the goal is because just interacting with different websites isn't malicious. However, Vanket Margaret Perry, who is a Villanova University computing sciences professor, says this poses a problem. The AI. Model was actively submitting information to a different website on behalf of the user. So that is what I would classify as a high risk action. Philadelphia police say the tip was marked as spam by its system and there's no evidence data was compromised. But the department said in a statement, quote, The City of Philadelphia takes this incident very seriously. The company must strengthen its safeguards to prevent similar incidents from impacting city systems without the city's knowledge. The two month delay in detecting and reporting the incident to the city is unacceptable. After the incident Anthropic told police it ended that testing process and will have additional authorization in the future in hopes of preventing AI errors. And it obviously has its own merits. Uh, but then it, it comes with, I don't wanna say demurets, but then it has, it comes with a bunch of risks that we, we should be actively aware of and manage. And that was Brianna Smith reporting. Anthropic put out a lengthy response tonight that reads in part, quote, Claude was instructed never to log in, create accounts, enter personal data, make purchases or submit anything destructive. But the instructions did not rule out form submissions. It adds, quote, we have briefed the White House on these cases and notified each agency involved. | 2:14 | aianthropicclaude | original sound - ABC7 News ABC7 News

Long lines wrapped around the block in downtown San Francisco on Friday as hundreds of shoppers welcomed the return of Japanese clothing retailer UNIQLO, five years after it closed its original downtown location. #uniqlo #grandopening #sanfrancisco #business #shopping #clothing #retail #abc7news | 50 k | – | x | 1,3 k | dim. 11 oct., 00:07 | 14 | 132 | Long lines and a block party in downtown San Francisco today. A major clothing retailer is back after five years, and shoppers just couldn't wait to get inside. ABC Sevens, Cameron Bop shows us why this grand opening is about much more than just shopping. Cameron. Hey, Karina. We are at the new Uniqlo location right here on 8 0 1 market street. So many people here. So much to pick from. Oh, my goodness. We're talking two floors of clothing to pick from. So many options, guys. It's no secret, though, if you go shopping on Market Street, there are still plenty of empty storefronts. We won't sugarcoat that. We know downtown's recovery is still far from over, but city leaders say that this opening signals a shift, and that it's just the beginning of what's to come. Okay, walk us through what all you got. Well, I got some crew neck sweaters. They're essential. A nice cashmere sweater, which is, like, pretty soft. Shoppers stocking up at downtown San Francisco's newest store. Now. I just bought all of them, so that's. Haha. But first they had to get in. What time did you get in line this morning? Oh, this morning I come in here around 9:00. For a little over an hour to get in. Worth it. Totally worth it. Five years after leaving downtown, a Japanese clothing giant, Uniqlo, is back. Its largest West Coast store now fills the former Old Navy store on Market. Street, a big investment in a downtown still recovering from years of empty storefronts. But what we've seen is this strong, steady momentum. San Francisco is coming back and it's coming back strong. Our media partner, the SF Standard, reports Mayor Daniel Larry sent letters to 50 major retailers urging them to open in the city and more could be on the way. A lot of businesses, I think are gonna start to popcorn around the district because this is where they wanna be. And this new store isn't just creating long lines and new business for downtown, it's also creating new opportunities for local students and their teachers. From vintage MUNI logos to custom San Francisco shirts, the store is packed with city pride. Local art student Mingus Blanco Norwalk has his own design on display. It feels great to, I don't know, be appreciated I guess for my work. And the partnership goes beyond the store. Uniqlo is also giving students materials to create their own fashions. And they also send us yards of denim. And we're gonna do a whole collaboration for our annual fashion show outside. An hours long block party with live music, art from local artists and family friendly fun. All bringing more foot traffic downtown. What it means for the whole city is retail is coming back. Brick and mortar is coming back. And with one major retailer returning, the hope is others will follow. And the grand opening celebrations are not over. Yet Uniqlo has special deals, giveaways and live performances planned all throughout the weekend. The store is open until 8:00 tonight, at 7:50 tomorrow Saturday and 6:50 on Sunday. We're live in San Francisco. Cameron pop, ABC 7 Eyewitness News. Alright, Cameron, thank you. | 2:55 | uniqlograndopeningsanfrancisco | original sound - ABC7 News ABC7 News

Reports of immigration enforcement activity across the Bay Area are creating fear among immigrant communities, as school districts in Richmond and Half Moon Bay respond to concerns about recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity. #ice #icearrest #immigration #abc7news | 103 k | 3.1× | x | 8,4 k | sam. 10 oct., 05:40 | 220 | 1,3 k | Now to breaking news. Concern growing across parts of the Bay Area as advocates report immigration enforcement activity in communities including Richmond and Half Moon Bay. Now, in Richmond, school officials say a man was detained near a campus, raising concerns and prompting district leaders to review the protocols. A B C7 Eyewitness News reporter Lupeania has the latest. Yes, we're seeing reports of immigration enforcement officers deployed across the state in the Bay Area today. The West Contra Costa Unified School District confirmed ICE agents detained a parent in their community. A confirmed ICE arrest in the city of Richmond Thursday morning has LED to fear in this community. There was a photo and a video circulating, um, that showed a father of a family being detained, um, in the morning hours. The West Contracosta Unified School District confirmed the parent did not have a student enrolled in their district, but the detention did happen near one of their schools, something that has shaken the entire community. Many of us are scared. We have to go out and we have to go to work. The same fear impacted Half Moon Bay. The Cabrillo Unified School District sent a letter to parents Friday morning confirming ICE agents were present in the community and reassuring them that students were protected, something the West Contra Costa County Unified School District shares. Immigration enforcement officers cannot enter, um, a school facility without a valid court order, um, judicial warrant or a subpoena. Um, and so our staff Is aware of those policies. This comes amid a reported statewide immigration operation by ICE, sources telling the Washington Examiner they're going after both the worst of the worst and non criminal illegal immigrants. The Department of Homeland Security said to ABC 7 News they would not discuss enforcement operations, adding everyday DHS enforces the laws of the nation across the country, including in California. California Governor Gavin Newsom addressed the ICE activity, saying Trump is using mass deportations to terrorize diverse communities out of legal voting. Ex-Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao's federal bribery and corruption trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday, more than two years after the FBI raided her home. From private backroom deals to a massive $300,000 "pay-to-play" scheme, the unsealed files show exactly how federal agents built their case after raiding Sheng Thao's home. #shangthao #oaklandmayor #corruption #abc7news | 5,3 k | – | x | 210 | sam. 10 oct., 03:50 | 8 | 7 | The federal bribery and corruption trial against former Oakland Mayor Shang Tao is set to begin on Tuesday, two years and four months after the FBI raided her house. Also charged in the case, Tao's partner, Andre Jones, as well as father and son David and Andy Duong from California Waste Solutions. 7 on your side investigates the exhibits that will be part of the trial. What prosecutors say is evidence of the bribery of elected officials and not just town. Now, Dan noises here with the story. Dan, um, Dan, it's been a long, constant job keeping up with the court filings. Now more than 400 entries on the docket. Prosecutors contend that David Duong, with the help of a son, Andy, bribed public officials to further their recycling business, California Waste Solutions. But in Exhibit 5:40, they were celebrating the start of another business, Evolutionary Homes, which would turn shipping containers into housing for the homeless. $300,000 per unit. Here their business partner, Mario Walter's toast the new company's launch. We're starting this. This project. Hopefully this is many, many wanting many. Five years that we did together, that we make a lot of money. In another part of the toast, prosecutors say Walter's describes how he and David Wong paid cash to Oakland City officials after CWS obtained the recycling contract in 2015. The day after you won the. The city of Oakland contract, you were there paying everybody. Everybody was like fucking piranhas after you, right? And I remember because I saw. I was there. I was. I was in New York in 10, 50, thousand, hundred, thousand, whatever it was. After his FBI interview, agents wrote Walters knew his role in his relationship with the Wong's was to help facilitate bribes to public officials, wires recounted. Individual 1 was paid $300,000 in cash in a black gym bag. He knew the amount because wires helped count the money. Duong's lawyers tried to exclude that video from the trial, telling the judge these claims, which principally concern supposed millions of dollars in bribes, are unrelated to the charged scheme. But Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers is allowing the jury to see this video as evidence and to hear several phone calls recorded by Andy Duong. Exhibit 6. In April of 2019CWS faced accusations that it was overcharging customers. Prosecutors say then Councilperson Shang Tao provided Andy Duong with information on sensitive internal City Council deliberations. Noel feels like there should be a refund of some sort. This is where Rebecca got caught up because she didn't have an answer for it. So do you guys have an answer for it? Right. Tao and Duong set up a meeting to discuss strategy, but she was unhappy with the location. The restaurant was normally too crowded, she said. But we don't want people hearing us talk about this stuff, you know? Right, right. And. And. But if it's a private room, it's. It's. I prefer a private room cause we don't Really want to be seen with you guys. Right? Right. Prosecutors say the recording shows the deep and long term relationship between Tao and the duwangs and CWS and their modus operandi of conducting sensitive meetings in person and in private. Andy, what's up, brother? Exhibit I is Andy Duong calling City Council member Kevin Jenkins in January 2024. Jenkins says he can't attend a cruise the next weekend, and Duong says they can arrange another time. We can party up, up in the. The yacht, but, um, yeah, I'll keep you posted on another one. Next time we do, we do a private one for us only. Okay? Sure. Um. The defense said the phone call has more than a modest likelihood of unfairly prejudicing Andy Duong, painting him for the jury as a foul mouthed party boy. But the judge is allowing the jury to hear the call. In it, Duong tells Jenkins that Shang Tao was not moving quickly enough to purchase units from Evolutionary Homes and that he might pull the family support for the mayor. Duong claimed he told Shang Tao, if you really want to continue for another term, then you better start acting right. A small portion of the evidence now. One other note. Take a look at this documentary featuring David Wong and his flight from Vietnam. My father, the king of trash, had to escape from Vietnam with nothing so that he could start over from scratch. And now it's my turn. To build a new empire, David Wong held free screenings of The King of trash at local theaters. The last just this past weekend in Emeryville. In a pre trial motion, the prosecution raised concerns that the Roung's lawyers might try to introduce the movie as evidence of his good character. But the defense responded they had no plans to show the film to the jury. But the timing is quite a coincidence. Here's our documentary. And by the way, our trial starts next week. Connection? Yeah, it's a little. So proper quality to that? Absolutely. That's right. And we'll be following it every day. You'll be there in court? Yes, I will. As thousands of spectators pour into San Francisco for Fleet Week and the Blue Angels air show, city officials urge visitors to leave their cars at home and take public transit instead, while implementing strict parking and traffic controls along the waterfront. #sanfrancisco #fleetweek #traffic #parking #blueangels #abc7news | 33 k | – | x | 1 k | sam. 10 oct., 02:30 | 48 | 203 | Uh, just regular parking. It's the question most traffic officers in San Francisco will be asked repeatedly on Fleet Week or Show Weekend. Where can I park? So what's the plan? Turn around, do circles, never ending circles, maybe pay 50 bucks for parking. Fabiola Garcia is driving a group of seniors from Castro Valley to watch the air show, but there's nowhere to park the van. We have a few residents from a nursing facility and we do this every year. So, um, we, you were used to the, the, the parking being a little easier than, than this year, don't even think of parking here on Jefferson Street, on Fishermen's Wharf or other spots along the waterfront. The city is creating and enforcing no parking zones to keep street traffic moving. Uh, yeah, I looked at Spothero and it's, uh, outrageous. Um, and the only decent pricing if you're looking at like six, 60 bucks is two miles away. So why do that? How did you get here today? We took Bart and then we took uni. Super easy. Uh, super cheap, actually, compared to gas prices nowadays. The SFMTA says extra Munich shuttles are running this weekend. Additional transit is going to be surveying the areas where we anticipate people to go and watch the Blue Angels. So that includes the eastern waterfront and the northern waterfront around Fisherman's Wharf. But you won't see any Waymo's or Zuck's robo taxis. They're totally restricted from most of the waterfront. Via a Geo fence and it's all because of confusion and traffic chaos. Many autonomous vehicles created on July 4th weekend in San Francisco and they cannot cross into that digital boundary. And those boundaries currently are gonna be on Lombard as an example. Kim and Christina from ST Louis are here for the weekend and loving the city's classic public transportation. Uh, staying at the Marriott and so we took the cable car all the way down here. So it was great. It was perfect. | 1:56 | sanfranciscofleetweektraffic | original sound - ABC7 News ABC7 News

For more Fleet Week information click the link below #fleetweek #sffleetweek #navy #blueangels #sf #sanfrancisco #fog #fleetweekshow#abc7news | 10 k | – | x | 349 | sam. 10 oct., 00:41 | 12 | 42 | It was a quieter afternoon than most people are expecting here at the Marina Green, and that's because of Carl. The fog. Hey, everyone, I'm driving quickly here with ABC 7 Eyewitness News. And we were supposed to have a Fleet Week air show from noon until 4, but because of the weather, they pushed that back, and we only got a glimpse at the Blue Angels just after 3:30. Now, the good news is there's supposed to be a full show tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4. And we were able to see the Blue Angels fly by a few times here. Because the fog was so low, they would go up into the clouds. We were able to hear them, but we weren't able to see them. People said they'll be coming back for the show later this weekend and Fleet Fest, which starts tomorrow. | 0:41 | fleetweeksffleetweeknavy | original sound - ABC7 News ABC7 News
