How to Reset Your TikTok Algorithm in 2026 (Viewer and Creator Side)

TL;DR

Viewers can reset their For You feed in Settings and privacy, Content preferences, Refresh your For You feed. Creators cannot press a reset button for their account: TikTok re-learns who your videos are for from your next batch of posts, so you reset by posting consistently in the new niche.

There are two different things people mean by "resetting the TikTok algorithm", and only one of them has a button. If you want a fresh For You feed as a viewer, TikTok has a built-in option: go to Settings and privacy, then Content preferences, then Refresh your For You feed. If you are a creator and want TikTok to show your videos to a different audience, there is no reset button. The algorithm re-learns your account from what you post next, and you steer it with your next 10 to 20 videos.

Reset your For You feed (viewer side)

  1. Open TikTok and tap Profile.
  2. Tap the three lines (☰) at the top right, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Content preferences.
  4. Tap Refresh your For You feed, then Continue, then Refresh.

Your For You feed then starts over, close to what a new account would see, and rebuilds from what you watch next. Your follows, your Following feed, your profile and your inbox stay the same. The refresh cannot be undone. If you do not see the option, update the app: TikTok rolled it out gradually.

To keep the new feed clean, watch fully the videos you want more of, long-press and tap Not interested on the rest, and use the keyword filter in Content preferences for topics you never want to see.

Reset how TikTok sees your account (creator side)

Creators usually ask this after a niche change or a run of flops: "Is my account stuck with the wrong audience?" There is no switch for this, and you do not need a new account. TikTok tests each new video on a small batch of viewers, then widens or stops based on how that batch reacts. It does not lock your account into a permanent label. Change what you post, and the test batches follow.

What actually resets your audience:

  • Post consistently in the new niche. In practice TikTok needs a run of videos on the same topic before it reliably finds the right viewers. We cover the numbers in how many TikToks before the algorithm understands your niche.
  • Make the topic obvious in the first seconds. The opening line, the on-screen text and the caption tell TikTok who the video is for before anyone engages.
  • Do not delete your old videos in bulk. It does not reset anything and can wipe the few videos that still bring you views.
  • Check whether it is really the algorithm. Most "my account is broken" moments are content that loses viewers in the first seconds. Read is TikTok shadowbanning me or is my content bad before you change everything.

How to know the reset is working

Compare each new video to your own usual views, not to someone else's account. If videos in the new niche start beating your median more often, the algorithm has found the new audience. You can see that at a glance by analyzing your TikTok account: Viewlify marks the videos that beat your usual views and shows what they have in common.

FAQ

Can you reset your TikTok algorithm?

Yes for your For You feed: Settings and privacy, Content preferences, Refresh your For You feed. For your account as a creator there is no button; TikTok re-learns your audience from your next posts.

Does refreshing the For You feed affect my own videos' reach?

No. It only changes what you see. Your videos are distributed the same way as before.

Should I make a new account to reset the algorithm?

Usually not. A new account starts with no followers and no history. Posting a consistent run of videos in your new niche on your current account does the same job without losing your audience.

How long does it take for TikTok to learn a new niche?

It varies, but expect a run of 10 to 20 videos on the same topic before the right viewers show up reliably.

Does deleting old videos reset the algorithm?

No. TikTok judges each video on its own test batch. Deleting old videos does not clear anything and can remove ones that still bring you views.
